Hi friends,
One of the most juicy and delicious things about flow states is the sense of ease and clarity. One of the hardest things about when that tap turns off and hit a brick wall is the wanting to go back to the flow again. One of the easiest traps when we get stuck in a rut, or hit a creative wall, is to start to turn our attention onto What Everyone Else Is Doing. And as we live in an age where a highly edited and curated fancy pants version of that is always available, it’s easy to begin to think we are the only ones who doesn’t have it together, and are not thriving.
Some Reflection Prompts: Reconnecting to Purpose in “Interesting Times”
Where in my life am I feeling friction—and what might that discomfort be trying to show me?
(Friction is often a signal, not a flaw. It’s asking for your attention.)When I scroll through social media, how do I feel after—truly—and what does that reveal about what I’m currently needing or avoiding?
(Awareness here is key. Social media can be both mirror and magnifier.)What version of “success” or “happiness” have I unconsciously absorbed from others that doesn’t actually align with my deeper self?
(This is where comparison distorts purpose. Time to reclaim your own metrics.)If I took away all the noise—the scrolling, the striving, the shoulds—what quietly remains that still feels true and important to me?
(Let your quiet truth rise above the loud world.)What have my ruts, pauses, or setbacks taught me about myself—and how might this current one be another (unwelcome but powerful) teacher?
(There’s gold in the grit. This moment might just be pointing you back to purpose.)
Life isn’t a straight line, and the heightened highs and lows give us an opportunity for personal growth. There is a Chinese curse ‘may you live in interesting times’, and we certainly are there in ‘interesting times’ now in this strange moment of humanity. Friction inside of ourselves tells us that there is something out of alignment, and often it also means we have lost the connection to our higher selves and sense of purpose.
I’ve been speaking with a lot of students who are describing a current feeling of overwhelm, and lack of motivation, alongside self doubt and comparison, and a desire to get back to clarity, balance and feeling grounded. I have been in many ruts in my time, and although unpleasant to downright awful, they have taught me a huge amount. Are you also feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or just not yourself lately? You’re not alone—and you’re in the right place if you want to move forward. Whether you’re in the thick of a rut, inching toward one, or just want to avoid landing back there (again), I designed this course to support you. When I was in France a month back, I was deep in one. I ended up going back and listening to the whole of Getting Out Of A Rut - helpful because I had our friend Paddy record the whole course in his ultra soothing voice.
Some helpful beginner prompts for you to start include
Journal Prompts: Rut Reset Primer
These prompts are designed to gently open the doorway to self-awareness and set the tone for the deeper work to come.
What does being “in a rut” feel like to me—emotionally, mentally, physically?
(Name it without judging it. Be honest, even if it’s messy.)What are the current routines, habits, or thought patterns that feel stale or limiting?
(Where are you on autopilot? What’s no longer serving you?)When was the last time I felt genuinely connected, clear, or energized? What was different then?
(This helps you locate your inner compass again.)If I could shift just one thing in my life right now, what would it be—and why?
(Start with one thing. Simple and honest.)What do I deeply value—but haven’t been prioritizing lately?
(This is about realignment, not perfection.)Through a combination of guided meditation, practical journaling prompts, and tools to reconnect you to your clarity and creativity, this course is designed to shake things up—in the best possible way.
In Getting Out Of A Rut, you’ll be guided through:
A meditation to ground and reset
A journaling process to define your current rut—what it looks like, feels like, and how it’s impacting you
Visioning exercises to create a clear direction forward
A reality check on what’s available to you right now—emotionally, physically, financially, and spiritually
Identifying where you already have momentum, and how to build on it
A daily gratitude practice to anchor you into what truly matters
Let’s be real: this course won’t magically erase life’s ups and downs. That’s not possible—and we wouldn’t pretend otherwise. What it will do is help you navigate those natural human fluctuations with more grace, clarity, and self-awareness.
Because the truth is, being human means swinging between expansion and contraction, momentum and inertia, inspiration and exhaustion. This course is about learning to flow with that—rather than against it.
